Edythe + Matt's Toronto Wedding! by Kate Lord

I was beyond excited when my friend Edythe McNamee called and asked if I would shoot her wedding! Edythe and I studied photojournalism together at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and worked together for two months in Shanghai after graduation, on assignment for Special Olympics International to teach Chinese college students how to shoot and edit video in order to cover the 2007 World Summer Games. Since then, she's worked all over the world, most recently as a producer for CNN. She's an amazing journalist, a killer videographer and a delightful travel buddy!

After our gig in China, Edythe moved to Abu Dhabi to work for The National, an English language newspaper -- where she met the incomparable Matt. I'd seen photos on Facebook and heard stories from Edythe and our mutual friends about him, but I didn't have the opportunity to meet him until his wedding day! I'm so glad my friend found such a joyful, funny and clearly loving person to spend her life with -- my time photographing their Toronto wedding was full of laughter and smiles!

Many congratulations to Edythe and Matt, and thank you for having me be a small part of your big day!

Kristen and Brittany's NYC Wedding by Kate Lord

Brittany and Kristen in Central Park on their first wedding day!

Kristen and I have been friends since we were Brownie Girl Scouts. We've grown up together, sharing secrets and struggles and triumphs. We've traveled, camped, and survived middle school together; we played varsity lacrosse together in high school, and we made sure to catch up every Christmas when we were each back in our hometown of Matthews, NC, every year after. It was during one of these visits home that I first met Brittany, and I knew - just in that few hours - that she was perfect for Kristen. They light each other up, get each other intuitively, and their relationship brings joy to everyone around them.

I can't express how honored and happy I was to be able to witness their New York City wedding! Kristen and Brittany got married in my new hometown of NYC in September at city hall and I was thrilled to photograph it (more photos below!), and today, I'm so happy to celebrate with them again at their second wedding celebration in North Carolina!

Megan and Alison's Wedding by Kate Lord

I met Megan at Girl Scout camp when we were in high school; we were counselors-in-training together, and were later lacrosse teammates. I was so honored when she contacted me ten years later to shoot her wedding to Alison in Washington, D.C., where they hosted family and friends at a cozy backyard wedding! They are such an adorable couple and so visibly in love -- they made my job easy!

Maternity Session with Melissa + Ryan by Kate Lord

A few weeks ago, my dear friend Melissa and her husband Ryan came up to New York for their Babymoon, and I had the pleasure of shooting some maternity portraits for them! I've been friends with Melissa since our senior year of college when we were assigned to do a project together in one of our photojournalism classes; we were sent to Dublin, Ireland, by the Special Olympics to produce a story about Aisling, an awesome athlete who later competed in the World Games in China (where Melissa and I worked together too!) After college, we lead twin-job lives, working at the same North Carolina newspaper (where she met Ryan!), and then working together at NBC in New York before she and her hubs moved to Georgia. They've since relocated to the Washington, DC, area, where Melissa is an AMAZING wedding and portrait photographer (she's shooting my wedding in October!)

Needless to say, she is a very special person to me, and I'm SO happy I got to work with them!

Mel and Ryan got engaged while they lived in New York, near one of the ponds in Central Park, so that's where we headed for our shoot!

I absolutely CANNOT WAIT to meet their beautiful baby girl! I know Melissa and Ryan will be AMAZING parents!
